downtown Selden |
Selden
is located in Sheridan,
[SD], county on Hwy 83. The community, though small, has many amenities
because people in the community work and volunteer their time and money
to ensure Selden has the facilities they want
and need to meet the needs of their community. There's a library on
the main street staffed by volunteers and a fitness center, put together
by community contributions in time and money, available for members
to join. Selden has, in other words, a very strong
sense of community where working together is the way to get things done.
Selden has two churches (Catholic
and Methodist), an elementary school
(along with the district offices for the USD), and a nice collection
of businesses including a small motel (3 units),
a lumberyard, a furniture store, an agricultural supply store, a grocery
store, an elevator, an auto body shop, multiple construction companies,
a bank, and two eating establishments, along with various additional
services.
A bookbindery, Koerperich Bookbinders, located on the main street of
town, was founded in Selden in 1969 and closed
in 2013. They provided bindery services for individuals (even a single
book) to large collections of books and were a certified library binder.
They were listed as a
finalist for one
of the eight wonders of Kansas Commerce. |
